Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen reports today that a Saratoga County jury today delivered a guilty verdict to Saratoga County Court Judge James A. Murphy, III at 3:40 p.m. in the case of The People of the State of the State of New York v. Georgios N. Kakavelos, Defendant on all counts. This verdict came during the sixth week of trial.
The jury foreperson reported the following verdict to Judge Murphy:
Murder in the First Degree, a Class A-I felony, in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 125.27(1)(a)(vi)- GUILTY
Conspiracy in the Second Degree, a Class B felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 105.15- GUILTY
Concealment of a Human Corpse, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 195.02 (regarding the covering, removing and transportation of the victim’s body from Fulton County and depositing the victim’s body in Saratoga County)- GUILTY
Concealment of a Human Corpse, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 195.02 (regarding the burial of the victim’s body in the Town of Malta)- GUILTY
Tamper Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding concealment, alteration or destruction of items found inside or outside the Local No. 9 deli in the City of Johnstown)- GUILTY
Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding concealment, alteration or destruction of items found in the wetland area of Dean Lung Road in the Town of Galway)- GUILTY
Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding the concealment, alteration or destruction of items found in the wooded area of Dean Lung Road in the Town of Galway)- GUILTY
Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding concealment, alteration or destruction of items found off Rowland Street in the Town of Milton)- GUILTY
Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding the concealment, alteration or destruction involving the relining of the trunk area of a black 2008 Volkswagon Passat in the Town of Glenmont, County of Albany)- GUILTY
Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 215.40(2) (regarding the concealment, alteration or destruction involving the cleaning and deodorizing of a black 2008 Volkswagon Passat in the Town of Colonie, County of Albany)- GUILTY
Kakevelos has been convicted for the murder of Allyzibeth A. Lamont on or about October 28, 2019 in the City of Johnstown, County of Fulton. Ms. Lamont was a 22 year old woman who worked for the defendant at his subshop and deli in Johnstown. The jury found that Kakavelos hired another employee, James Duffy, to assist him with the murder and the removal of the victim to a grave site in the Town of Malta. Lamont was just 22 years old at the time of her death. Attached is a photograph of Ms. Lamont.
District Attorney Heggen commended the work of the many law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, as well as the dedicated work of the prosecutor First Assistant District Attorney Alan M. Poremba, along with Assistant District Attorneys Joseph Frandino and Johnny Destino. Mr. Kakevelos was represented by Kevin O’Brien.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 19, 2021 at 11:00 am.
