Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen reports that Craig N. Ross, Jr., (dob 3/17/1977) of Ballston Spa, NY was arraigned on a nine count Indictment by Saratoga County Court Judge James A. Murphy, III. The Indictment charges Ross with Kidnapping in the 1st Degree, a Class “A-I” felony, in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 135.25(1); four counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a Class “A-II” felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 130.96; two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Class “D” violent felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 130.65(3); Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” violent felony, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 120.05(6); and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class “A” misdemeanor, in violation of NYS Penal Law Section 260.10(1). These charges are alleged to have taken place in the Towns of Moreau and Milton during the period of September 30, 2023 through October 2, 2023.
Through his attorney, George Conway, Esq., Defendant Ross entered a not guilty plea at arraignment to all nine counts of the Indictment.
Judge Murphy remanded the defendant without bail. The next court appearance for Defendant Ross is scheduled for December 21, 2023.
District Attorney Heggen praised the efforts of the numerous members of law enforcement and many other community members who assisted with investigation and noted that the work of law enforcement is on-going.
DA Heggen also makes note of New York State Civil Rights Law Section 50-b, which provides in pertinent part that “…The identify of any victim of a sexual offense, as defined in article one hundred thirty… of the penal law… shall be confidential.”. Therefore, DA Heggen will not make further comments and requests that any entity reporting or commenting on this case not use the name or photograph of the victim.
