Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced today that Jacob R. Hayner (DOB 06/23/1986) pled guilty in the Saratoga County Court before the Hon. James A. Murphy III to both Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class “D” Felony in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 155.35, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 145.10.
Defendant Hayner admitted under oath that on May 6, 2024, he stole a pickup truck from the parking lot of a Clifton Park Stewart’s Shop and then fled onto the Northway. The New York State Police and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department quickly surrounded the stolen vehicle that was weaving in and out of rush hour traffic at nearly ninety (90) miles an hour. The Defendant also admitted to intentionally ramming a Sherriff’s Deputy’s patrol vehicle during the pursuit. The Defendant was ultimately stopped and taken into custody without any civilian or law enforcement injuries.
“We are all deeply grateful for the quick and professional response of both the New York State Police and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department— without their intervention the safety of everyone on the Northway that afternoon was in jeopardy,” said Heggen. “Given the seriousness of these acts it was very important for us to seek two (2) separate pleas of guilty. It is anticipated he will be sentenced to consecutive State Prison sentences.”
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Frandino together with District Attorney Investigator Michael Hourigan.
