Saratoga County District Attorney Brett R. Eby announced today that the Honorable James R. Davis of the Saratoga County Court sentenced Jaiden A. Ildefonso (DOB 01/10/2007) to fifteen years to life in prison in connection with his December 2025 plea to Murder in the Second Degree. The defendant previously admitted to fatally stabbing 20-year-old Simon Brault on the front steps of his family’s home following a dispute on social media. Simon heroically rushed to defend his younger brother, who was the target of both the defendant and another underage co-defendant.
Members of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and Clifton Park and Halfmoon EMS arrived within minutes of the stabbing, secured critical physical and electronic evidence, and tracked the defendant’s fleeing vehicle to a location more than fifty miles from the scene. Deputy Carpenter and Deputy Martin, serving as School Resource Officers at Shenendehowa High School, were able to quickly identify the masked defendant due to their familiarity with his unique vehicle, significantly aiding the rapid apprehension effort. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office worked in coordination with the New York State Police, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit to ensure that substantial evidence was properly collected, tested, and analyzed, ultimately securing a conviction on the top charge of Murder in the Second Degree.
“The strength of the Brault family in the face of this tragedy has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said District Attorney Eby. “They have shown remarkable grace while enduring an unimaginable loss, and they have fought tirelessly to ensure that Simon’s life was not lost in vain. Through their efforts to pursue legislative change, establishing a foundation in Simon’s honor, and advocating so that no other family experiences such heartbreak, they have created a lasting impact. We will continue to stand with them in these efforts long after this conviction.”
District Attorney Eby also applauded the members of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department whose dedication helped build the case that secured this life sentence, including, but not limited to: Captain Herrick, Senior Investigator Bouyea, Investigators Benoit, Hess, Rossi, Rich, Speziale, Gardner, and Mancini, Lieutenant Thompson, Sergeants Roney and Lancto, and Deputies Jasmin, Ferguson, Pergolino, Ingegni, Marin, Carpenter, Han, Dunlap, and Cleveland.
“This conviction is also a testament to the extraordinary dedication and professionalism of our prosecution team, including General Felony Unit Bureau Chief Joseph A. Frandino, Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Treiling, District Attorney Investigator Timothy Sicko, and Crime Victim Advocate Nicole Lichva,” Eby said.
“I want to especially recognize Chief Joseph Frandino, whose tireless commitment to justice not only secured a life sentence for the family, but also provided a steady source of strength and support to the Brault family throughout this process. His willingness to work nights and weekends, and his unwavering compassion, exemplify the very best of public service. This team’s dedication ensured accountability in this case and brought a measure of justice to a grieving family.”
