Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced today that Sherman J. Chambers (DOB 04/25/1974) of Albany, New York was sentenced today in the Saratoga County Court to three-to-six (3-6) years in State Prison in connection with his January 25, 2024 plea of guilty to Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, a “Class D” Felony in violation of New York State Penal Law § 145.10.
During the early morning hours of August 20, 2023 the Defendant entered the parking lot of Saratoga Honda and proceeded to forcibly remove tires from a parked vehicle as well as steal a variety of personal items from several other vehicles.
Upon closer inspection of surveillance footage, the Saratoga Springs Police Department was able to locate the getaway vehicle’s license plate number and confirmed the Defendant’s name, photograph, and his prior addresses within the City of Albany. The Defendant was later apprehended in connection with these charges while committing a separate series of thefts in Albany County.
The Defendant ultimately pled guilty to the top Felony count and was sentenced as a Second Felony Offender to three-to-six (3-6) years in a state correctional facility. He was also ordered to pay full restitution to Saratoga Honda, received fines, fees, and surcharges and waived his right to appeal.
“The Saratoga Springs Police Department was able to take just a few frames of dark surveillance footage and from that develop a suspect, build a case, and ultimately a means to apprehend him” said Heggen. “Given the Defendant’s considerable criminal history and damage caused to one of our local businesses we felt a significant state prison sentence was appropriate.”
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Frandino together with District Attorney Investigator Jack Barney.
