New initiatives for public safety and accountability

The District Attorney’s Office is focusing on four major initiatives that reflect the needs of Saratoga County: animal protection, narcotics and special investigations, stronger special victims prosecution, and an in-house appeals bureau.

Animal Abuse Registry

Increasing transparency and deterrence by maintaining a registry for individuals convicted of animal cruelty offenses under Saratoga County’s local law.

A cross-disciplinary commission created in the wake of recent tragedies involving children to review systemic issues, identify communication gaps, strengthen child-safety practices, and develop recommendations for agencies and policymakers.

These initiatives move beyond case-by-case prosecution by strengthening systems, improving coordination, supporting victims, protecting children and animals, and focusing resources on serious threats to public safety.

Animal Abuse Registry

The Animal Abuse Registry helps protect vulnerable animals and gives the public a clearer way to understand how Saratoga County handles animal cruelty convictions. It also connects with broader countywide efforts involving law enforcement, animal welfare organizations, and county officials.

Narcotics and Special Investigations Bureau

This bureau focuses on serious and complex criminal activity, including controlled substance trafficking, illegal firearms, sex trafficking, and human trafficking. The goal is to work with law enforcement partners on long-term investigations and hold dangerous offenders accountable.

Strengthening the Special Victims Unit

The Office is investing in experienced SVU prosecutors and leadership so vulnerable victims receive informed, consistent support while serious cases are handled with preparation, care, and accountability.

Creation of an In-House Appeals Bureau

The Appeals Bureau brings appellate work inside the Office, helping prosecutors protect convictions, support trial strategy, and reduce outside legal costs for taxpayers.
