Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced today that Shaun A. Sheriff (DOB 02/21/1992) pled guilty before the Acting Saratoga County Court Judge Tatiana N. Coffinger to Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Violent Felony in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 140.25(2), in connection with a Summer 2024 spree of burglaries in the Town of Clifton Park and City of Saratoga Springs.

The Defendant admitted under oath that on the evening of June 23, 2024 he broke into a home in the Town of Clifton Park with the intent to steal property inside.  The homeowners awoke that evening to the Defendant standing at the foot of their bed and immediately called the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office who quickly arrived at the scene.  The Defendant was then taken into custody without incident and was later discovered to have several items in his pockets that he had stolen from within the home.

After his June 23, 2024 arrest, law enforcement investigators determined the Defendant also perpetrated a series of late-night burglaries that had plagued the Town of Clifton Park and City of Saratoga Springs over the preceding several days— including at The Bunker, TGIFriday’s, Jimmy’s Egg, and The Hudson Valley Credit Union during which money, alcohol, and merchandise were stolen.

“I want to personally recognize the efforts of the New York State Police, Saratoga County Sherriff’s Office, and Saratoga Springs Police Department who worked together and identified the Defendant in a series of commercial burglaries across our County,” said D.A. Heggen.  “Further, I want to commend the victims who simultaneously showed a sense of calm, vigilance, and care during what was assuredly a frightening ordeal.  The Defendant’s long State Prison sentence reflects our commitment to ensuring that he is both held accountable and that justice is served.”

The thirty-three (33) year-old Defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on May 2, 2025 to between eight (8) and twelve (12) years in State Prison, followed by two-and-a-half (2.5) years of post-release supervision.  The Court will also issue full stay away Orders of Protection for the maximum period of time in favor of the victims and order the Defendant to pay full restitution.

The case was prosecuted by General Felony Unit Bureau Chief Joseph Frandino together with assistance of District Attorney Investigators Joseph Iwaniec and Jack Barney.
