Saratoga County, NY-Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby today formally proclaimed the month of April as Child Abuse Awareness Month in Saratoga County, reaffirming the community’s commitment to protecting children and strengthening families.
“Children are our nation’s most vulnerable members, as well as our most valuable resources,” said District Attorney Eby. “They shape the future of New York State, and it is our shared responsibility to ensure they grow up in safe, supportive environments.”
The proclamation highlights the fundamental right of every child to be loved, cared for, and raised in an environment that supports their healthy growth and development is free from verbal, sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, exploitation, and neglect. Childhood trauma, including abuse and neglect, can have long-lasting psychological, emotional, and physical effects that extend throughout an individual’s lifetime and may impact future generations. As such, child abuse remains a serious issue affecting every community across the United States, requiring collective awareness and action. District Attorney Eby emphasized that preventing child abuse depends on strong partnerships among families, social services agencies, schools, faith-based institutions, civic organizations, law enforcement, and local businesses. These collaborations are essential to providing resources, strengthening families, and reinforcing protective measures for children.
“All citizens play a critical role in protecting children,” Eby stated. “We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspected child abuse or maltreatment.”
Reports can be made to the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, a 24/7 hotline, by calling 1-800-342-3720.
The proclamation also recognizes that parents and caregivers are better equipped to provide safe and nurturing environments when they have access to support and resources.
In observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month, the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office will once again participate in Pinwheels for Prevention, a nationwide campaign symbolizing hope, safety, and the bright future every child deserves. Throughout April, pinwheels will be “planted” across the community as a visible reminder of Saratoga County’s commitment to preventing child abuse and supporting families.
“Together, we can create a safer future for all children,” Eby said. “Awareness is the first step, but action is what makes the difference.”
