Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announces that Cassandra C. Morsellino (DOB 09/20/1991) of Amsterdam was sentenced in Saratoga County Court to Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class “C” Violent Felony in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 110.00/120.10(1), in connection with a December 5, 2021 shooting on Jersey Hill Road in the Town of Galway.
On September 6, 2022 defendant Morsellino admitted to the attempted assault on December 5, 2021 of the homeowner following an early morning dispute. Co-defendant Michael J. Kennedy was sentenced to State Prison on August 15, 2022. On December 23, 2022, the thirty-one (31) year-old defendant Morsellino was sentenced to six and a half (6.5) years in State Prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
District Attorney Heggen said, “We’re satisfied that the homeowner received the justice he deserved and that we were able, with the cooperation of many different agencies, to hold both assailants accountable for their actions. Justice was done.”
The investigation spanned two counties – Saratoga and Montgomery – and was aided by the cooperation between the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Amsterdam Police Department. Of note, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Investigator Matthew Kavanagh and his lead in coordinating a complicated, cross-county search and investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Mary T. Northrup with the aid of Crime Victim Specialist Ashley Kitts and District Attorney’s Office Investigators Jack Barney and Michael Hourigan.
