Brett Eby announced today that Brian Hopkins has been sentenced following his conviction for Predatory Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class A-II felony, after a jury trial in Saratoga County Court. James R. Davis sentenced the defendant to 32-years-to-life. District Attorney Eby applauds the Court for imposing the maximum sentence permitted under the law and delivering justice for the young victim and the community.

District Attorney Eby also recognized the extraordinary courage of the young victim: “This case is a testament to the strength and resilience of a brave young victim who had to face the abuser in open court. That is no small feat. The support and strength shown by the victim’s family throughout this process was critical and deeply commendable.”

The District Attorney’s Office also praised the extensive efforts of the prosecution team. “Senior Bureau Chief Michele Schettino worked tirelessly, day in and day out for months, to ensure justice was achieved for this victim. She is one of the top prosecutors in New York State, and Saratoga County is incredibly fortunate to have her fighting for victims.”

The office extends its sincere gratitude to Chief Alexander Brennan, Crime Victim Advocate Ashley Kitts, Chief Rachael Phelan, Senior Attorney Andreanna Diliberto, Investigator Michael Hourigan, Investigator Mike Wells, Investigator Jack Barney, Investigator Joseph Iwaniec, Investigator Mark Sauter, Investigator Tim Sicko, and legal intern Audrey Fountain for their dedication and professionalism throughout the case.

The District Attorney also thanks the New York State Police for their critical role in building a strong case, including Investigator Michael Menges, Investigator Roger Lind, Lieutenant Shane Larkin, Investigator Cecile LeBarron, Senior Investigator Matthew Britten, and Investigator John Montesano.

“This defendant is a pedophile who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison for the horrific abuse he inflicted on a child,” said District Attorney Eby. “Today’s sentence sends a clear message that Saratoga County will relentlessly pursue justice for child victims and hold predators fully accountable.”
