Saratoga County, NY — Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby announced that a Saratoga County Grand Jury has returned an indictment charging Kyle Baker with Murder in the Second Degree (Penal Law § 125.25) and two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence (Penal Law § 215.40).
The indictment contains allegations that, during the early morning hours of April 14, 2026, on West Avenue in the City of Saratoga Springs, Baker caused the death of John C. Williamson by stabbing him several times in the back and neck with a knife, fatally severing his carotid artery. The indictment further alleges that, following Williamson’s death, Baker engaged in efforts to conceal physical evidence connected to the incident.
The two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence arise from allegations that Baker attempted to conceal evidence related to the homicide, including efforts to hide blood-stained clothing behind a nearby Stewart’s Shops location and otherwise prevent the recovery of material evidence by law enforcement.
The investigation was led by Investigator Matthew Wilson of the Saratoga Springs Police Department. Members of the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit quickly secured the scene and located critical physical evidence, video surveillance, and numerous eyewitness accounts relating to the alleged altercation. The investigation enabled law enforcement to preserve significant evidence connected to the case.
District Attorney Brett Eby praised the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the matter.
“This indictment reflects the extensive work performed by law enforcement and prosecutors during the investigation of these allegations. My office will continue to work diligently as we prepare for trial, with a steadfast focus on seeking justice for John Williamson and his family. We are grateful for the professionalism and dedication shown by our law enforcement partners throughout this investigation.”
The prosecution is being led by General Felony Bureau Chief Joseph Frandino and Assistant District Attorney Emily Williams. The investigation was supported by District Attorney’s Office Investigator Jack Barney and Investigator Tim Sicko.
Baker is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on June 22, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. before the Honorable James R. Davis in Saratoga County Court.
